No one normally marries with a conscious intent to divorce, yet countless Catholics are finding themselves in the midst of a divorce. Whatever circumstance ends a marriage, a spouse is left behind and a family is forever changed. In addition to dealing with overwhelming emotions, financial and family problems, huge numbers of separated and divorced Catholics:
- Stop attending Mass or leave the Church completely
- Ignore - or misunderstand - the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding separation and divorce
- Do not realize the deep healing power that lies within the Church
Topics include:
The spiritual life and the teachings of the Catholic Church on separation and divorce
We examine aspects of divorce which everyone experiences differently and in different ways including denial, anger, fear, forgiveness, dealing with family and children, money, annulment and more. The video series offers the experiences of several individuals and experts on these topics. Each video is followed by group discussion.
Separated/Divorced Support Groups: Surviving Divorce has been chosen by the Family Life Office as the program to be used for Archdiocesan support groups for the separated and divorced. This series, based on the Theology of the Body, offers information about the teachings of the Catholic Church and supports the process of emotional, spiritual and psychological healing following the breakup of a marriage. Please note, this program is for spiritual support. It is not clinical therapy.
